Utility/Substation Project Conditions

Describe what the project needs to connect, replace or extend before selecting equipment.

New substations

State the project stage, utility connection requirements, incoming supply arrangement and planned outgoing feeders. Identify who owns system design and approval.

Extensions to existing stations

Provide the existing single-line diagram, equipment nameplates and interface drawings. Identify shutdown constraints and any proposed parallel operation for engineering review.

Distribution projects

Describe the served loads, installation arrangement, planned growth and access constraints. Confirm whether the enquiry concerns individual equipment or an integrated package.

03 / PROJECT REQUIREMENTS

Voltage, Capacity and System Inputs

Use project values with units and document revisions. Mark unavailable data as “to be confirmed”; do not replace it with assumed ratings.

Network & voltage
Nominal system voltage and required equipment rated voltages; primary and secondary voltages; frequency and phase; required insulation levels and utility specification.
Capacity & operating duty
Required kVA or MVA with units, load profile, expected demand and growth assumptions. Identify redundancy or parallel-operation requirements; capacity alone does not establish suitability.
System & protection
Available fault-level data and duration, earthing arrangement, protection philosophy and relevant system studies. State transformer impedance, vector group and tapping requirements where specified.
Site & installation
Indoor or outdoor installation, ambient temperature, altitude, space limits, cable access and transport route. Describe environmental conditions requiring technical review.
Specification baseline
Single-line diagram, equipment schedule or BOQ, project specifications and their revisions. Identify applicable standards, editions, utility review requirements and unresolved inputs.

Transformers

Confirm transformer type, ratings, winding configuration, cooling, tapping, terminations and accessories against the project duty.

Compact / prefabricated substations

Identify the intended enclosure, transformer and switchgear arrangement, access, ventilation and cable interfaces. Package availability and assembly responsibility require confirmation.

High- & low-voltage distribution equipment

Specify the actual system voltage, switchgear duties, busbar requirements, protection and metering, control supply and cable entry. Category names alone are not equipment specifications.

Associated components

Provide drawings, quantities, materials where specified, terminal details and interface dimensions for bushings, tanks, radiators or other requested components. Availability and compatibility require review.

Electrical connection
Match rated voltages, required insulation levels, current duties and agreed transformer characteristics to upstream and downstream requirements.
Mechanical connection
Confirm general arrangement, foundation loads, overall dimensions, terminal positions, cable or busduct entry, clearances and access for maintenance.
Protection & control
Define CT/VT requirements where applicable, trip and alarm contacts, auxiliary supplies, interlocks and communication interfaces. Protocol and equipment compatibility must be reviewed.
Responsibility & revisions
Give each interface an owner, drawing reference, revision and confirmation status. A proposal remains open until the responsible project parties resolve it.

Project FAQ

Can I enquire before all ratings are final?

Yes. Share the available single-line diagram, BOQ or specification, identify the project stage and mark outstanding values. Missing information can be listed for clarification; an initial enquiry does not establish an approved equipment selection.

Does this solution include a complete turnkey substation?

Do not assume turnkey or EPC scope. Identify the required equipment and services separately. System studies, civil works, installation, commissioning and utility approvals need explicit responsibility and scope agreement.

Can a new transformer operate in parallel with an existing unit?

Parallel operation requires project engineering review of both units and the system. Provide existing nameplate data, ratings, vector group, impedance, tap information and the operating arrangement. Do not infer compatibility from matching capacity alone.

Are utility approvals or certificates included?

Identify the specific utility, approval process and evidence required. Availability, applicability and acceptance must be confirmed for the offered equipment. A product listing or standards reference is not utility approval.

Can transformer and switchgear requirements be submitted together?

Yes. Provide the equipment schedule and interfaces for a coordinated scope review. Confirm availability, package boundaries, protection and control responsibilities, and the party responsible for integration before commitment.

What if no suitable product is listed?

Submit your requirements through the existing RFQ. The absence of a listing does not establish availability or unavailability; the requested scope must be reviewed before an offer can be confirmed.

Electrical requirements
Capacity and units; primary/secondary voltage; frequency; phase; specified vector group, impedance, tapping and insulation requirements.
System & site
SLD and fault-level information where available; protection and earthing requirements; installation, ambient conditions, altitude and access.
Supply & interfaces
Equipment list and quantities; package boundaries; interface drawings; existing-equipment data when extending a station.
Documents & schedule
Specification revisions; required deliverables and review stages; target delivery date and destination port where known. Mark open items explicitly.
